No Fear Lives Here is a choice based action-adventure game centered around the exploration of a small town and the surrounding woods that are inhabited by terrifying creatures. Interacting with the townsfolk, The Boy who helped you escape the woods, and the grotesque creatures, your every decision will affect the moral of your story. Made in Unity with C#, No Fear Lives Here is currently a vertical slice of the complete narrative game our group detailed in a 40 page game treatment document. For this project, a screenwriter, creative writer, and I spent a semester fully fleshing out the branching narrative concept, complete with a playable demo.
Personal Contributions
- Brainstormed initial concept, engaged in consistent discussions to hone our common vision as the story evolved due to my group members’ incredible writing contributions
- Identified dependencies and created semester timeline of tasks delegated to each group member, a timeline which was adapted weekly depending on team progress
- Drew outlines and maps detailing narrative concepts and their ties to core game mechanics
- Wrote extensive documentation including competition analyses, game mechanics, controls, user interface components, and asset descriptions.
- Compiled weekly progress reports on what each member accomplished, what our blocks were, and how we planned to move forward the next week
- Programmed the branching narrative infrastructure in Unity without external branching dialogue solutions
- Programmed all features including character movement, turn-based combat, choice-dependent encounters, and dialogue sequences through core game design patterns including game states, events, and singletons
- Collected and/or tailored all art, integrating it into the game through methods including tile mapping and sprite sheet animations
